Rob has been composing, performing, and teaching in Seattle since 1998. As a performer he’s worked with many local artists, as well as international artists Winston Watson and The Meditations. His composition work includes films, while his passion is electronic music.

“Our 14 year old son, Joey, has been taking piano lessons from Rob for nearly five years! We have the highest regard and appreciation for Rob in all that he has taught our son….Rob has expertly moved him to the next level of difficulty…taught our son important technical skills….inspired him to play with grace and emotion. Rob has worked with Joey’s own interest in music…..encouraged him to stretch into new avenues….words cannot express how grateful we feel that he is our son’s piano teacher!” - Jerry and Mary Lou Nakao

Three decades of studying piano and synthesizers, including coursework at the Berklee College of Music and Jazz and Classical studies with noted performers Dave Peck and Dr. Gary Stegall have shaped Rob's approach to his students. While allowing for a broad range of styles, his lessons begin with a “classical” approach that quickly evolves into improvisation, composition, music production, and performance. His former and current students can be found in local bands such as Great Waves, performing at local festivals (Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside), and as members of their school orchestras and jazz ensembles. As an educator, he has developed workshops for students learning to write, record, and produce music on personal computers that have been conducted at local schools and teaching studios. Rob also applies computer and music production technology to augment the skills his private students are learning. The result is a unique and stimulating music curriculum that covers the fundamentals of theory, technique, and sight-reading as well as contemporary music, songwriting/composition and modern keyboard instruments.

Over the years, Rob has developed a reputation for being patient and open-minded with his students. His focus is to foster student creativity while helping them develop a positive relationship with music.
