Qu Chen

Piano, Cello

​

Qu started learning cello at the age of 4, and started his orchestra experience since age 6. At age 9, he passed the grade 9 cello performance exam in China. He later played as principal cellist in Edmonton Youth Orchestra after coming to Canada during middle/high school while continuing his cello lessons at University of Alberta music faculty. After coming to Seattle in 2012, he played in several local orchestras including the Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra, Amazon Symphony, University of Washington Campus Philharmonic, and the Northwest Mahler Festival Orchestra. 

 

Qu started studying piano during college, and later enrolled in University of Washington music faculty’s secondary piano program for non-music major students. He has a strong interest in playing solo and chamber music works in classical music genre, and occasionally performs as the pianist in chamber music groups. 

 

Qu is currently a software engineer at Amazon. Music is at the top of his list of things to do during his spare time.
