Jennifer Hastings has practiced music therapy for over ten years. She hails from upstate New York, where she studied music therapy at The College at New Paltz. After receiving her music therapy degree, Jen studied improvisational music therapy techniques at Taconic DDSO in NY, with a large staff of music therapists. Full of fire, she moved to the west coast, where music therapy jobs were few. She worked at every job but music therapy for a few years, most notably as a singing waitress at a German restaurant. She also had her own business teaching lessons in flute, guitar, voice and piano. Once breaking into the music therapy world, Jen worked in Seattle, Portland, and in Arizona. She has worked as a lone therapist as well as a co-therapist, collaborating with speech and occupational therapists at a speech clinic in Federal Way and other agencies.She has worked with all ages and abilities, finding ways to teach music to all kinds of people and to work on physical, communicative, social, and expressive goals. Aside from her work here at Music Works, she sees hospice clients and seniors. In Jen's spare time, she works as an Outward Bound instructor out of Eastern WA, teaching teens how to backpack and rock climb.
